For once I’d like to witness
the grace of elk or elephant
in their slow, gentle strides,
or meet the northern lights
and sleep to the cold waters
lapping the frozen icecaps,
while the utility bills pile so high
behind the door they threaten to cut off
the electricity, and I don’t give a damn.
Me too.

Yes to this!
“while the utility bills pile so high
behind the door they threaten to cut off
the electricity, and I don’t give a damn.”
This just screams, “set me free” and it is brilliant!

Thank you! John Fante writes with a real struggle and determination, which inspired the last stanza =)
