The Morning Metronome

In their metronome
the rain drops
from the awning,
each wordless splash
a muted syllable
in a morning of damp
grass, shamrock turf,
as the wheelbarrows
ramp and pass, wobbling
each a mound of earth,
rolling from new
levelled ground,
where water collects
in soil cups
without a sound.
